Course Description
This course provides an introductory overview of the biological and health effects of ionizing radiation, with emphasis on how radiation may affect cells, tissues, and the human body. It introduces key concepts such as DNA and chromosome damage, chromosome analysis, phases and mechanisms of radiation damage, direct and indirect actions of radiation, radiosensitivity, radiation and tissue weighting factors, and tissue-specific radiosensitivity. The course also highlights potential health effects on the skin, hair, eyes, thyroid, and foetus, supporting a foundational understanding of radiation protection from a biological and health perspective
