Radiation Quantities and Units

NRRC

Course Description
This course introduces learners to the fundamental quantities and units used in radiation protection and dosimetry. It explains key concepts such as Linear Energy Transfer (LET), radiation exposure, absorbed dose, Kerma, dose equivalent, and effective dose, as well as radiation and tissue weighting factors. The course also covers the specific gamma constant and commonly used radiation units for reporting patient doses. By the end of the course, learners will be able to understand how radiation quantities are defined, measured, and applied in professional and medical radiation protection contexts

Course Level
Intermediate

Target Audience
This course is intended for learners with a basic understanding of radiation concepts who wish to develop their knowledge of radiation quantities, units, and dosimetry principles. It is suitable for staff working in nuclear and radiation regulatory bodies, radiation safety officers, inspectors, trainees in radiation protection and nuclear safety, medical physicists, health professionals involved in radiation-related practices, technical personnel, and university students in relevant scientific, medical, and engineering disciplines
